 REPORTING PROBLEMS

101 is the number to call when you want to contact your local police - when it's less urgent than 999. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What you can report using 101

Call 101 to contact the police to report less urgent crime and disorder or to speak to your local officers. For example, call 101:

  • if your property has been damaged
  • if you suspect drug use or dealing in your local area
  • to report a minor traffic accident
  • to give the police information about crime in your area
  • to speak to the police about a general enquiry

When you should use 999 instead

You should call 999 if:

  • a crime is in progress

Proposed Travellers Site

Ardsley Residents Association (TARA) were as surprised as everybody else at the announcement by the council to spend £800,000 on a travellers site (Sandygate Lane) when this site had been declared unsuitable by all concerned over three years ago. At a meeting of the association on Monday an overwhelming vote of disapproval for the proposal was made by residents. As others have said the site is next door to our Primary Academy, local businesses and an unsuitable road leading to Stairfoot roundabout. Cllr Clowery is asking for the council to arrange a fully constituted council public meeting, with local councillors and officers in attendance to answer questions from the public. The meeting gave it's full support to this idea. Representatives from Kendray TARA who were also at the meeting pledged their support of opposition to the proposal.

ARDSLEY CHURCH RESCUES

            CAROLS IN THE PARK

The Reverend David Fry came to the rescue of Carols in the Park event as it was due to be cancelled for the second year due to the adverse weather conditions. The Church provided shelter for The Barnsley Youth Jazz Orchestra and Oakhill Voices to entertain The Mayor of Barnsley Councillor Karen Dyson together with Consort Councillor Martin Dyson and a full church, with carols and music. The Vicar commented "a precedent has been set as it is the first time that Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer has been sung in church".

Silver Gilt Award for Ardsley in Bloom

Ardsley improved on their Silver award 2009 by gaining a Yorkshire Rose Silver Gilt Award (Spring Medal Position-Silver Gilt, Summer Medal Position-Silver Gilt) at the Yorkshire in Bloom Awards Ceremony at The Pavilions Harrogate on 20th September 2011. Ardsley was one of four Silver Gilt winners out of 13 entrants in their group. Barnsley in Bloom also received a Silver Gilt Award.

The judges commented that “Ardsley is an attractive Urban Community that has a pleasant and thriving atmosphere. A wide dual carriageway that runs through the heart of the community could have fragmented it but instead the residents have turned it into a feature with daffodils that we saw in the spring and the barrel plantings in the summer. It is lovely to see the enthusiasm & commitment that the community has for improving their local area and how so many residents, businesses and agencies are working together to make Ardsley Bloom”

 MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

On the 29th July 2010 Ardsley Residents Association achieved their original aim. The Mayor Councillor Margaret Sheard and Consort Tom Sheard officially opened Pacers Field. It has taken six years and a lot of work in the planning, funding and practically completing the require work.

The field, previously called Scarfield, is council owned and a horse called Pacer grazed the field in the 1970s also around this time allotments were gardened at the Cumberland Drive/Scar Lane end of the field, unfortunately they fell into neglect.

However the field has been used for recreational purposes for many years by residents. In 2004 the council planned a residential development for the field, Ardsley Residents Association was formed and objected, after a time the field was declared a green space. Discussions were held with all concerned as to the field’s future, firstly it was decided that the field would be known as Pacers Field after the horse that grazed there; a project plan was proposed and accepted to develop the field for residents and visitors to enjoy the flora and fauna of the area.

The Probation Service, Community Service, Unpaid Work Unit agreed to carry out the work with support from Ardsley Residents Association and work started October 2009. Funding and support for the project has come from residents, local organisations/business,BMBC, Jo Birch Parks Officer, Howard Gaskin Neighbourhood Pride Area Manager, Stairfoot Ward Community Support Fund and a reduced rate for road plainings from Graham Bateson Smithies Depot., The project has transformed and improved the area. Thanks to all the people and organisations involved.
